Summary
The novel by Tim O'Brien, titled "If I Die in a Combat Zone", explains the story and experiences of Tim O'Brien getting drafted to the war in Vietnam and what happens in Vietnam. First, O'Brien tells about how he got drafted into the Vietnam war and why he doesn't want to go. "Having done all this, i went back to my corner in the library, and for the first time, persuaded myself that it was truly possible." This quote is explaining that he is plotting to ditch the army and leave to Europe and he actually starts to believe that it will work. If he gets caught though he would be in serious trouble. Ultimately he comes to his senses and realizes he can't do this and he stays in the Army. Next, Mr. O'Brien gets shipped over to Vietnam with Alpha Company. While in Vietnam he explains what kind of weapons and things they have. "The Bouncing Betty is feared most." The Bouncing Betty is a very dangerous type of bomb the Vietnamese use.. Finally, in the end Mr. O'Brien tells about his experiences when he gets back home. He makes it home safe and sound and that is the reason he writes this novel.
